My role at UCSD |
|
I assist students applying to professional
and graduate schools with writing-related issues and
concerns, from generating and organizing the content of
their application essays to developing their sense of
grammar and writing style. |
|
My career path |
|
I started working at the Career Services
Center on a temporary basis when I was still a graduate
student here at UCSD. After I completed my Ph.D. in
Literature, I was happy to be hired by the Career Services
Center on a permanent basis, and also to continue to teach
writing courses here on campus. |
|
The rewards in doing what I do |
|
The best part is when students realize that
in order to become better writers, they have to become more
critical thinkers – that there’s no template or formula you
can follow that can make you a good writer – and seeing the
resulting improvement in their writing. |
|
My words of wisdom to students |
|
Focus on developing intellectual curiosity as
opposed to merely acquiring knowledge, because the latter is
meaningless without the former. |
|
When I'm not on campus... |
|
I’m reading, writing, watching TV, or playing
guitar and/or piano (but not all at the same time). |
