Career Collaborations
We recognize and appreciate the unique relationship you have developed with your students/alumni and welcome the opportunity to work collaboratively with you to meet their career development needs. Here are a few ways that we can support your efforts and also engage you in ours:
How we can help
- Deliver outreach workshops/presentations at your departmental, college or area programs on a wide range of career and graduate school preparation topics. Click here to make an outreach request or learn more about topics available.
- Present in a class. We’d be delighted to come (at a faculty member’s request) to a class or senior seminar and speak with students about career issues related to their studies or offer targeted programs on career options for their major/discipline. Contact Roxanne Farkas for details.
- Provide meeting space. If your department or program is looking for a well-appointment meeting space, we have two rooms available. Our Horizon Room (seats up to 80 lecture style) and Round Conference Room (seats up to 25 conference style) which are both equipped with up-to-date media equipment. Additionally, a member of our staff can do a brief presentation at the beginning of your meeting describing our services and how we can work collaboratively. Please contact Guest Services at (858) 534-3750 for more information.
How you can help
- Speak at a Career Services Center panel or networking event. We sponsor a variety of events each year including career panels, targeted industry networking nights, and academic career conferences that could benefit from faculty and staff participation. Contact Lauren Payne if you would like to participate in events such as these.
- Identify alumni who may want to participate in career panels/events. Students love to hear from and interact with successful alumni in their fields of interest. Please refer any alumni from your program who you think would be good speakers for career-related events, and we’ll follow up with them. For more infomration please contact Lauren Payne.
- Meet with employers interested in hiring your students. Employers periodically express interest in engaging key faculty from a variety of academic departments. Let us know if you’d be interested in such employer interactions and we will make the connection happen. Please contact Craig Schmidt for more information.
- Encourage your students to use the Career Services Center. Many students seek out their faculty for career guidance and “next steps”. Please encourage them to take advantage of the wide range of resources and programs we offer.
