Graduate Intern
|
As a graduate student intern for the Career Services Center, I advise students on the various phases in their career development through self-assessments, career exploration, and job search strategies. In addition to individual advising, I help with workshops and on-campus fairs.
After receiving my bachelor’s in Public Relations from the University of Alabama, I traveled to Guam for a community events internship through the Department of Defense. While living on the naval base, I coordinated several community events, planned and promoted a band concert by the group Everclear, and I briefed national and international submarines about the various activities offered in Guam. After my internship, I moved back to San Diego and began working as a substitute teacher in the San Marcos Unified School District. During this time, I also traveled to Ghana, Africa as a human rights volunteer with Projects Abroad. This experience inspired my next career move of attending law school. After one semester of Law School in Florida, I knew that was not the correct career path for me to further pursue. As a result of this realization, I once again moved back to San Diego and worked at BeneTrac, part of Paychecks, as a data analyst while I began graduate school classes at the University of San Diego in School Counseling. I am in my second and final year of the Master’s program at USD, and I am looking forward to the next steps on my career path.
Having “spun my wheels” numerous times on my journey to finding a career, I enjoy working with students as they are working through their career development by giving them useful information in their decision-making process. I enjoy the discovery of finding that perfect fit.
It is never too early to start career development. UCSD has wonderful resources to help all students, so I recommend making an appointment and coming in!
In my free time, I enjoy traveling, riding my beach cruiser, and taking my dog to the dog park. I have had the chance to travel throughout Europe, China, Central America and Africa. Sunny days in San Diego are so much fun, and I love spending them at the beach. In addition, I also volunteer through different organizations to give back to our community.
