- About Me
My role at UC San Diego
I serve as the Associate Director of Technology, Administration, and Strategic Projects. I oversee the operations and general infrastructure of the Career Center, which includes technology, survey collection and data analysis, finance, process improvement, and more. I frequently serve as a project manager for many ongoing initiatives, and serve as a consultant where needed.
My career path
I went to San Diego State University with the intention of becoming an elementary school teacher; however, around the time I graduated, there was a plethora of “pink slips” being handed out to teachers. I decided to dive into insurance sales for a while instead, which I liked, but found myself gravitating towards education once again. I started out working in the post-secondary setting in the Registrar’s Office, and then moved over to Career Services in 2012.
The rewards in doing what I do
Making things better, in terms of process and experience, is what I find extremely rewarding. If at the end of the day, I have made it easier for someone to accomplish what they set out to do, I feel great satisfaction.
My words of wisdom to students
In terms of your future career, don’t feel bound by the expectations others put on you. Become comfortable with yourself; understand what types of activities give you the most energy and enjoyment, while recognizing those that drain you. With this in mind, focus on potential careers that inspire you, keep you challenged, and keep you wanting more.
One of my favorite quotes
“Keep away from people who try to belittle your dreams. Small people always do that, but the really great ones make you feel that you, too, can become great.” -Mark Twain .
