About Dana Monroig

My role at UC San Diego

I work on the Employer Relations team to increase career opportunities for students. My work involves growing and strengthening relationships with employers here in San Diego and nationally. I encourage employers to post positions on Port Triton, participate in job and internship fairs and interview UC San Diego students. I also work with student organizations and advise students to help them meet their career goals.

My career path

Starting with an internship at the career center of my undergraduate institution, I’ve worked in career services, employer relations and professional development for over a decade. But my career path hasn’t been a straight line; I had no idea I would become a career services professional. I thought I needed to get a job in my major, and held several positions in the private and non-profit sectors before transitioning to higher education.

The rewards in doing what I do

I’ve always known I want to help people, and I feel lucky to have found a profession that utilizes my skills in a way that benefits others. Connecting students with career opportunities and enabling organizations to hire talented employees is rewarding to me. I have a special passion for helping students identify and communicate their strengths.

My words of wisdom to students

Only worry about the things you can control or influence. Also, there is no one correct path for your career. It’s okay to not know what you’re going to do for the rest of your life.

In my free time...

I enjoy reading, trying new foods and exploring San Diego.
