How to Use the Recommendation File Service

Applying to medical school through AMCAS 2009? Click here for instructions on how to send your letters to the AMCAS Letters Pilot.
 

Get Started
(FAQ)
1.   Go to career.ucsd.edu 
2.   Go to the Grad School Information Page 
3.   Click on "Letters of Rec"
4.   Read the Recommendation File Service Policies  (pdf)
5.   Proceed to setup 
6.   Enter your PID (other UC?)
7.   Create a username and password
8.   Choose the appropriate file service
9.   Fill out the Applicant Data Form and Authorization Form
10.  Pay the necessary fee using a MasterCard or Visa

1.   Print and fill out the Waiver and Routing Form (pdf)
2.   Indicate whether you have waived or retained your right to view the
      letter
3.   Provide us with any application service matching forms, if applicable
     (e.g., LSDAS, AMCAS. AADSAS, PharmCAS)

We do not handle school-specific forms
Add Letters
(FAQ)
1.   Give a completed Waiver and Routing Form (pdf) to each of your
      writers
2.   Inform your writer(s) that the completed form must accompany the
      letter
3.   Letters will post to your account within one full business day of receipt

Check Letter Status(FAQ)

1.   Log on to your online file service account
2.   Click on “View List of My Letters”

See the letters that we have received
Purchase Distributions
(FAQ)
1.   Log on to your online file service account
2.   Click on “Purchase Distributions”
3.   Choose the number of distributions you need
4.   Fill out your credit card information
5.   Click “Continue”
6.   Proceed to send your letters
Send Your Letters
(FAQ)

1.   Log on to your online file service account
2.   Verify that we have received the letters that you want to send (Check
      Letter Status)
3.   Click on “Request a Distribution” (You must Purchase a Distribution
      first)
4.   Fill out the Request Form with your institution’s information
5.   Click on which letters you want sent to the institution
6.   Choose rush mailing (Priority or Express Mail), if applicable (additional
      fees apply).This does not expedite Career Services’ processing time.
7.   Click “Continue”
8.   Print the confirmation screen for your own records
9.   Click “Confirm Request”
10.  Letters will be sent within 5 business days after receipt
Check Distribution Request Status
 
1.   Log on to your online file service account
2.   Click on “View Distribution Request History”
3.   See the status of your distribution requests
4.   “Pending” status means that we are still processing your request
