Special Format Resumes


Summary:  Follow these guidelines when preparing your resume in special formats and submitting your resume for On-Campus Interviews and Career Services job/internship listings.

      Scanned resumes
  • Use key words relevant to the field.
  • Begin each page with your name.
  • Use common, serif typefaces 10-14 point size.
  • Print one side only on standard size paper; avoid lines, staples, and folds.
  • Avoid italics, underlining, script, graphics, shading -- capitals, bullets and boldface are OK.
  • Sample.
      Email resumes
  • Use plain text or ASCII text that can be read by a variety of software.
  • Use hard returns at the end of each line and only 55 or fewer characters per line.
  • Use common font types and size.
  • Sample.
      Online resumes
  • Be concise.  Include an objective, emphasize key skills, accomplishments, and experiences.
  • Include the same contact information as your printed resume.
  • Directions for resume submissions on the Internet will vary; follow site specific directions.
  • Type your resume in any standard word processing program. 
  • Save it to disk or to your own hard drive.
      Port Triton resumes
      You may store up to 10 different resumes on our system.  Use these resumes to apply for
       jobs/internships or on-campus interviews.  Follow these steps to load
      your resumes into our system:
  • Login to Port Triton (if you have not yet registered, register first)
  • Click on Job Search Documents and select Manage Resumes
  • Click on Add a Resume
  • Type in location of resume or use the browse button
  • Give resume a name (e.g., Sales, Lab Internship, Accounting).
  • Click on Upload Resume
  • Note:  In the primary resume status section at the bottom of the Manage Resumes Page there is a 
    check box that says:  make primary resume available to employers at the UCSD Career Services Center.
    This box must be checked to participate in On-Campus Interviews.
