Fair Tips

Summary:  Learn how to make fairs work for you.

  • Go Prepared.  Have plenty of copies of your resume available and prepare a 45-second verbal summary of your strongest qualifications to use when introducing yourself to company representatives.
  • Dress for Success.  Wear attire that distinguishes you in a positive way from others.  Business casual is recommended:  for men, a collared shirt, khakis or similar; for women, sweater set, blouse, and nice pants or skirt.
  • Allow Ample Time.  Plan your schedule in advance to allow time to visit those employers of most interest.
  • Ask the Right Questions.  Prepare a list of questions to avoid aimless, non-conclusive conversations.  Always ask about the next step in the hiring process and get business cards so you can follow up.
  • Pick up Business Cards.  Use this information to follow up with recruiters after the fair.
