Questioning Career
Transition Group for Ph.D. Students
Each
quarter this unique, five-session series helps doctoral students
through the often difficult decision-making process of whether to
pursue an academic faculty career or an alternative.
Each workshop
includes large and small group exercises, discussions, and
assignments to help each student gain insight into their personality
preferences, values, transferable skills, and personal goals.
Participants are
expected to commit to all five sessions throughout the
quarter.

three-part series of workshops contains strategies, exercises, and
small-group discussions designed to take you through the steps that
will help you make an informed and affirmative choice of a career
outside of academe—you will likely have more than one!

this relaxed and supportive environment. This workshop will teach
you effective interview techniques and strategies, plus help you
develop questions to assist you in gaining greater insight into any
position and company, during an interview. Space is limited.

Start
Learning About and Preparing for Life After Graduate School
This workshop focuses on early preparation (even during the first
year) for life after graduate school, whether you plan a transition
into an academic or non-academic career. Don’t wait until your last
year, or when the pressure is on to find a job, to start building
your CV or Résumé, recognize your skills and qualifications, and
start making contacts.

Interview Practice for Ph.D. Students
Master the academic interview: practice answering typical committee
questions (on camera) and get immediate feedback from a career
advisor and your peers. This workshop will help you articulate
clearly who you are and what you want to do, and also help you
develop questions that will help ensure you are making the right
decision, when accepting an offer. Space is limited.
The Academic Job
Search
Small
liberal arts colleges don't hire on the same basis as large,
research universities such as UCSD or UCLA. Get a head start on
preparing to go On the Market next fall.
This three-part workshop is designed to provide an overview of the
Academic Job Search process from the perspective of the search
committee and help you figure out how to present your credentials,
on paper and in person, in the strongest possible manner.
