Making the Most of a Job Fair
Learn how to make the best use of your time, how to approach
employers, what questions to ask and how best to prepare to make a
great first impression. Career Advisors will be available for
resume critiques following the workshop. Offered every
quarter, a day or two prior to each job fair.
Job Fairs
Offered once per quarter, this is your chance to meet informally
with company representatives to discuss employment opportunities for
part-time, summer, internship, and full-time positions. The
fairs, held on Library Walk (in case of rain, in the Price Center
Ballroom), are open to all students and alumni. It is a good
idea to bring copies of your resume, but not required.
Mini Job Fairs
Throughout the academic year we host targeted mini job fairs
featuring employers who typically do not attend our larger job
fairs. The fairs are held in the Plaza area in front of the
Career Services Center building (in case of rain, in the Horizon
Room). In the past targeted fairs have included: work-study
opportunities, legal, media, non-profit sector, as well as
organizations specifically seeking candidates at the Ph.D. level.
On-Campus Interviews (OCI)
Come to one of our orientation sessions held at the beginning of
each quarter to become familiar with the on-campus interviewing
process. Learn how to use Port Triton to gain online access to
the on-campus interview schedule. Become familiar with
effective navigation and search techniques, as well as important
sign-up deadlines. Employers usually visit campus each quarter
between the second and eighth weeks. Interviews take place on the
second floor of the Career Services Center. For a list of
participating companies, check out Port Triton.
Company Presentations
Offered quarterly, these presentations are a great opportunity
to learn about companies interested in hiring UCSD graduates.
Should you take the time to attend? Definitely, if you have
any curiosity about the company or if you are interested in
obtaining an internship or a career position within the
company. Presentations are usually informal and offer an
overview of the company, the types of positions offered and a
glimpse into the company culture. This is your chance to ask
questions and make personal contacts with a current employee.
Some companies require attendance at their presentation to
participate in their on-campus interviews. It is appropriate
to bring a resume, but not required.
