Student Employment provides thousands of opportunities for students to work part-time on-campus to develop job skills and core competencies, make connections throughout the campus, and enhance their educational experience at UC San Diego.

The benefits of Student Employment include:

  • Earning money to assist with educational and personal expenses
  • Gaining valuable work experience to help build a career portfolio
  • Developing transferable skills and core competencies that strengthen marketability to future employers
  • Building relationships and expanding professional networks by connecting with staff, faculty, and students
  • Engaging in professional development opportunities to prepare students to be successful in their first job out of college
  • Job shadowing experiences alongside faculty and staff that explore the day-to-day office responsibilities in a professional environment
  • Increased sense of belonging and connection to UC San Diego

We invite students to connect with a Career Coach to explore how their student employment experience can play a role in their future career development. Career Coaches can help students prepare to apply for on-campus jobs by reviewing cover letters and resumes, and conducting mock interviews.

Student Employee Spotlight

Julia Vazquez, Undergraduate Research Assistant

"Student employment allowed me to dedicate most of my time and energy towards developing skills and experiences important to pursuing my biomedical research career. These experiences are crucial to transition to early-career opportunities or graduate school after my undergraduate degree. The research opportunity allowed me to get to know the amazing researchers in the lab, and my mentors have been incredibly supportive in helping me develop the skills needed for graduate school".
