Advising services are available to undergraduate and graduate students and recent graduates within the past six months of graduating.

Career Peer Educator: Drop-in Advising (No appointment needed!)

Advising services are available to undergraduate and graduate students and recent graduates within the past six months of graduating. 

Drop-In Advising doesn't require an appointment—it's a quick and convenient way to get support. You can meet with a peer advisor for help with general questions, basics of application materials for internships, jobs, and graduate programs, tools for job searching, information about upcoming Career Center events that match your career interests, and more. It's an easy, no-appointment-needed service designed to help you with a variety of career-related services. 

Career Peer Drop-in Advising for Undergraduate Students 

In-person: Wednesdays & Thursdays 10 a.m. – 3 p.m  at the Career Center (Off of Library Walk, across from Center Hall) 

  • For in-person advising, check in at the front desk once you arrive at the Career Center and then go straight to the Library/Lab, where drop-ins are held. 

Virtual: Mondays - Tuesdays 10 a.m. – 3 p.m, and Fridays 10 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.  Search Virtual Drop-in  through Handshake

  • For Virtual advising, click on the Events tab in Handshake and search "Virtual Drop-in" to select an available day to sign up. You will receive a Zoom link to join. Please note that there is a waiting room.

Advising by Appointment


Appointment Required Advising is a 30-minute session with a professional advisor, allowing for a personalized approach. Topics that can be discussed are but not limited to: 

  • Exploring interest, skills, and passions, and how those can lead to a meaningful career 
  • Discovering values and personal metrics of success, and how those can guide you towards the right path 
  • Developing and refining application materials, such as resumes/CVs, cover letters, personal statements 
  • Defining what makes you a unique candidate and how you can share that with professional contacts and recruiters 
  • Navigating the resources available at the Career Center and online, so you can find the tools you need to succeed 
  • Making the most of career or job fairs, on-campus recruiting, networking events, and more, to ensure that your name catches the attention of employers 
  • Reviewing career search and job search strategies: a journey of a thousand applications starts with a single bullet-point 
  • Improving your LinkedIn and social media profiles, so recruiters pick up what you're putting down 
  • Practicing interviewing techniques, understanding that it’s not just about what you know but how you can present it 
  • Learning how to negotiate your salary and benefits to get the compensation that fulfills your financial needs and is realistic to the industry and role of the job market 
  • Establishing networking methods and strategies: Around 80% of new hires result one way or another from networking 
  • Setting clear and accountable short-term goals, and translating your strengths and what you've done into concepts that employers can appreciate 

Sessions typically take place within our normal business hours of Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
