Career Advisor

My role at UC San Diego

As a career advisor, I provide workshops and individual career advising to students. Career advising addresses core areas such as: career-related research, decision making, career planning, job searching, networking, interviewing skills, resume and cover letter development, and graduate and professional school planning. My specialization is in the Biological Sciences and Mathematics; however, I advise students in all areas. Moreover, I support and contribute to the programming and outreach of the Career Center.

My career path

After earning my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, I then went on to pursue my Master of Science in College Counseling & Student Development at Azusa Pacific University. I pursued my graduate degree in hopes of becoming a career counselor one day. After earning my graduate degree, I was able to fulfill my dreams and landed a job as a career counselor at San Diego State University. After working as a career counselor for two and a half years, I then worked as a test accommodations coordinator for Student Disability Services at San Diego State University. It was a great experience, but I realized my true passion is counseling and advising students towards reaching their educational and career goal. Therefore, I decided to return back to my career passion and here I am as a career advisor at UC San Diego.

The rewards in doing what I do

It is truly rewarding helping students reach their personal and professional goals. Supporting students in the same capacity that career counselors has helped me during my undergraduate and graduate education is what I aspire to do.

My words of wisdom to students

“Two things to remember in life. Take care of your thoughts when you are alone, and take care of your words when you are with people” (unknown author). In essence, be kind to yourself and to others. It will take you very far in life.

In my free time...

I enjoy spending quality time with my family (including my dogs), boyfriend, and friends. This includes trying new restaurants, having deep conversations, and going on hikes. Topics on psychology, health, relationships, and dogs spark my interest.
