Partnering with Faculty to Integrate Career Readiness

Faculty play a critical role in preparing students for success beyond the classroom. The Career Center partners with faculty to intentionally embed career readiness into the curriculum, helping students translate their academic experiences into meaningful career pathways.

Our approach is grounded in the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Career Competencies, a nationally recognized framework that identifies the key skills employers seek in college graduates.

Integrating Career Readiness into Your Course

We collaborate with faculty to embed these competencies into coursework in ways that align with your learning objectives. Examples include:

  • Designing assignments that connect course content to career pathways
  • Embedding reflection activities that help students articulate transferable skills
  • Incorporating project-based learning that builds teamwork and communication
  • Integrating career research or industry analysis into course topics
  • Aligning course outcomes with one or more NACE competencies

Instructional Support

The Career Center offers support to help you incorporate career readiness without overhauling your course. This may include:

  • Customized classroom presentations tied to NACE competencies
  • Co-creation of assignments or modules that reinforce career readiness
  • Activities that help students identify and communicate the skills they are developing

Career Development Series

Our Career Development Series (link?), offered each academic quarter, complements classroom learning by reinforcing key NACE competencies such as communication, professionalism, and career development. Faculty are encouraged to integrate these workshops into their courses through required or recommended participation.

Planning Your Requests

We encourage early collaboration to maximize impact. Due to the high volume of requests, we may not be able to accommodate all custom presentations. Reviewing our existing workshops is the best first step in identifying resources that align with your course goals. Complete the Workshop Request Form.
